Faridkot district is small, with tehsils at Faridkot and Jaitu, and was reduced twice when Moga and Muktsar were carved out of it.
It holds Qila Mubarak at Faridkot, the Faridkot state's buildings and its long-running estate litigation, Jaitu where the morcha of 1923 to 1925 was fought, Bargari and Behbal Kalan, and the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College.
It is wheat and paddy country with cotton in the south.
The events of 2015 at Bargari and Behbal Kalan happened in this district and reshaped Punjab's politics for a decade.
The Faridkot Teeka, the nineteenth-century Punjabi commentary on the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, was produced under the state's patronage here.
What is not recorded: the state's archive and library, whose fate is bound up in the estate litigation.
The district was created in 1972 and lost Muktsar and Moga to new districts in the 1990s, which is why it is now among the smallest in the state.
Jaitu is where the morcha of 1923 and 1924 was fought, when Akali jathas marching to complete an interrupted akhand path were fired on by Nabha state and British forces. The morcha ran for over a year and it drew jathas from across Punjab.
Faridkot town has the Qila Mubarak, the Raj Mahal and the Darbar Ganj, all of them caught up in the litigation over the last ruler's estate that ran for decades. The buildings have been closed to the public through most of that period.
