Twenty questions to ask

What is the oldest thing here and who looks after it. When was this village founded and by whom, and whose got is it. What does the name mean.

Who left, and when, and where did they go. Who came, and when, and from where. What was here before 1947 that is not here now.

Where is the jathera and whose is it and what is the story. Is there a pir's shrine in the fields, and who keeps the lamp.

Where was the well and when did people stop using it. Where was the pond and is it cleaned. Where was the sanjha chulha.

Who is on the memorial and does anyone know their names. Who went to which war.

What did people grow before wheat and paddy. When did the first tubewell come, the first tractor, the first television, the first person to go abroad.

Where is the cremation ground, and is there more than one, and why.

What do people still argue about. What happened here that nobody outside the village knows.

What songs did your mother sing. What did she say when someone died.

Write down the answers and who gave them and when. That is a record and there is no other.

Who founded the village and when, and what got are they. Where is the jathera. What is the oldest building and what is written on it.

What was here before 1947, who lived in it and where did they go. Where is the shamlat and who uses it. Where did the water come from before the tubewell.

Who has left, when, and to where. What is the village called by the people in the next village, and why. What is the one thing everybody here knows that is not written down anywhere.
